To install a child safety seat in your vehicle, you first need to figure out where the seat will be. The safest place is usually in the middle of the back seat, but that isn't always an option. If you can't place your child seat in the center seating position, either the driver's side or the passenger's side will do. Try to choose the position that you think is safest.

Next, determine whether or not your car seat allows for LATCH installation. This stands for Lower Anchor and Tether for Children. A LATCH seat can be anchored to the car's seating itself to keep your child secure. If you don't have LATCH, you'll need to secure the car seat with your vehicle's seatbelts. Thread the seatbelt through the correct belt path for the direction in which your seat is facing. Make sure that there are no twists in the belt, and lock it in place. Check the angle of the safety seat to make sure it's level, and tighten the belt so the seat doesn't move.
